About us

When we moved to our first apartment 16 years ago, we spent weeks painting the walls in bold colors, knowing full well we’d be priming and painting them back in a couple of years. But, it was the perfect backdrop for our simple lives back then and the precious memories we made with loved ones.

And that’s who we are. As teenagers, we spent our allowance on decorating our rooms. That enthusiasm to create well-designed spaces is one of the many things we share in common. However, we take wildly divergent approaches to implement our plans (which keeps it interesting).

About our home

Over the years, our lives have evolved. So has our perception of the ideal habitat for our family to thrive in. Last year we bought a multi-level suburban home constructed in 1965 on a quiet cul-de-sac. It was built by the developer of this neighborhood for his own family, which makes it special somehow.

This house has seen its share of wear and tear and witnessed personal tragedies in the lives of the families that lived here before us. The more history we uncovered, the more intent we were to mend both its form as well as its soul.

About the blog

We took on more home improvement projects than we ever imagined within our first year of moving in. Like so many others, we desperately needed something productive to do while staying at home during the Coronavirus pandemic. We challenged ourselves with ambitious plans, acquired new skills and way too many tools (a jackhammer, seriously?!). Some turned out exactly as we imagined, but there were multiple fails. You just fix it and know what not to do next time.

That’s what this blog is about. Not every article will be a grand reveal with an Instagram-able feature photo. Instead, expect to read about incremental improvements, DIY victories and disasters, and what we would have done differently.

So follow along as we renovate our home to make it more than just a collection of vignettes. A functional, modern home that evolves with us.
